In one of our articles, we analyzed in detail what it is necessary to acquire for those who intend to create electronic music. However, long before you get down to mixing edm music, there is something else you need to know.
Learn some music theory. You can, of course, play an electronic instrument or compose music on a computer without being able to read sheet music, but some knowledge of the musical structure will help you find the best arrangements and identify errors in the composition.
Familiarize yourself with the capabilities of your tools or software. Even if you tried them before you bought them, you should experiment with
with their equipment before going into serious production. This will give you a better idea of what it can do. And maybe give you some ideas for future projects.
Find out more about the musical genre in which you intend to work. Each genre has certain elements with which it is associated. The easiest way to do this is to listen to a lot of tracks in the genre you want to see exactly how these elements are used.
So, all the preparatory activities have been completed and you can start creating electronic music. First, set the beats and rhythm – the heart of your track.
Add melody and harmonies. This is where your VST instruments come into play. You can use presets or experiment with controllers to find your own sound.
However, everything is good in moderation. You should not strive to ensure that every second of your composition is filled with all sorts of tricks.
When you create electronic music for others, you must consider the expectations of the audience. Of course, you do not have to try to please everyone, but the main points should be taken into account.
So, you have created a track. Now it’s worth listening to it on a variety of devices, including home stereos, car stereos, MP3 players, smartphones and tablets. Use different speakers and headphones. After all, you want to achieve sound quality that will sound good on as many systems as possible.
Now that you already know how to mix electronic music, you can get started. For those who did not have the opportunity to read our previous article, let’s go through the technical support again. So, to create electronic music, you need the following:
- electronic musical instrument (synthesizer/controller);
- computer system, preferably with a good sound card;
